Summary
This week we continued our discipleship series in Luke 9:57–62, where Jesus taught that going after Him takes wholehearted commitment, sacrifice, and focus—without looking back.
Going Takes Commitment: Counting the Cost of Following Jesus
Luke 9 reminds us that discipleship isn’t casual—it requires surrendering comfort, agendas, and distractions to follow Christ fully.

Sermon Overview:
This week we continued our summer series on discipleship, reflecting on what it really means for us to be “going for Jesus.” Building on the themes of commitment, vision, and intentionality, we opened Philippians 1:8–11 together and were reminded that, in everyday life and in suffering, God gives us a way to “see” clearly—through abounding, discerning love.
As a church family, we believe God has called us—not our building, but us as His people—to carry the gospel into our community. Paul’s words help us see that discipleship means offering ourselves as living sacrifices in worship to God, choosing not to conform to the world but instead to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. It also means walking in humility, recognizing that we are one body made up of many members, each with unique gifts that God has given for His glory.
Together, we are called to use these gifts—whether teaching, encouraging, serving, giving, leading, or showing mercy—to accomplish God’s mission. None of us is called to go alone. Just like a team or a toolbox filled with different tools, we are strongest when we serve side by side, united in love and humility. By God’s mercy, we go together so that the good news of Jesus will reach our families, our neighbors, and our community.
